Alhaurin el Grande - In the middle of everything!
Alhaurin el Grande is a typical Andalucian town, with narrow whitewashed streets and pretty church squares. Set in the mountains, but only 25 mins from the airport, beaches and towns of the Costa del Sol, it is surrounded by golf courses + only a short drive from the heart of historical Andalucia.
Places to Go
The other side of the mountain from Alhaurin el Grande is the famous ‘white’ village of Mijas, whilst further afield you can visit:
* Malaga (1/2 hour)
* Gibraltar (1-1/2 hours)
* The Alhambra Palace in Granada (2 hours)
* Cordoba (2 hours)
* Ronda (2 hours)
* Seville (2-1/2 hours)
* The sherry region of Jerez (3 hours)
Alternatively, take a ferry to Morocco for the day, or visit Madrid! A day-trip from Malaga/Madrid is now possible with the new high-speed rail (AVE) connection taking only 2-1/2 hours each way.
Things to Do
* Play tennis/swim at our beautiful new local town amenities - set in lovely gardens on the outskirts of town, but within walking distance of the house.
* Walk in the surrounding forests, or visit El Torcal Nature Reserve to see the wonderfully unusual rock formations, and maybe the odd vulture!
* Fish in a nearby lake, or go deep-sea fishing down on the coast
* Horse-trek or cycle through our beautiful countryside
* Ski during the winter months in the Sierra Nevadas - 2 hours away
* Surf in Tarifa - 2 hours away
* Take the kids to the wonderful waterparks of Torremolinos & Mijas Costa, or to Selwo Zoo.
Beaches to Lie On
The Costa del Sol is one long beach! so there are many lovely ones to choose from, all within 25 minutes drive eg: Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, La Cala, Cabopino, Marbella, Puerto Banus etc. They all have local restaurants dotted along them, so no need to bring a picnic as food/drink is never far away.
Golf Courses to Play
Andalucia and the Costa del Sol in particular, is famous for its golf courses. We are surrounded by them, and most are within 5-40 mins. drive!! Here are just a few to whet your appetite! A click on each one will open up their websites to give you further information.

Restaurants to eat at
Alhaurin has a multitude of restaurants/tapas bars to choose from offering a variety of different types of food. They are all very reasonably priced - and within walking distance of Casa Isabella.
Bars/Nightclubs
Alhaurin has a young population, and the Spaniards love to "party", so the nightlife is lively and plentiful. There are bars in abundance throughout the town, and a street in the new part of town is devoted to nightclubs! There are also a few English/Irish bars in town, so should you want to go and watch football/rugby etc. with fellow countrymen, that is also catered for - again all within walking distance of the townhouse.
